**Scam Alert** Company calling itself "Gold Rush" is calling residents stating they've won vehicles or money.
Clallam County Sheriff's Office is warning its members of possible fraudulent activities targeting PUD customers. The PUD has been contacted by at least one customer indicating they have received telemarketing calls from a company calling itself “Gold Rush.” The company may indicate that it received the customer’s contact information from the PUD. The scam then suggests that because of the customer’s excellent credit history and long term association with the PUD that they have won one or more vehicles.
The only requirement is that the customer pays the sales tax on the vehicles. Customers are told they are then free to sell or keep the prize.
Doug Nass, PUD General Manager, emphasizes, “The PUD does not share customer information with any entity and we certainly have nothing to do with a company called Gold Rush.” Nass cautions everyone to be very careful about whom they share personal information with. “If you have doubts about a situation, and the PUD’s name is connected with it, please give us a call to verify the situation,” says Nass.
The PUD has been in contact with local law enforcement to make them aware of the scam as well. For additional information on the PUD, visit www.clallampud.net.
