LOCAL ARTIST ARMANDO NUÑEZ EXHIBITS DURING SEPTEMBER AT SOUTH CHULA VISTA LIBRARY FOR LIBRARY’S 15TH ANNIVERSARY

The exhibition “Power of the Imagination”, featuring paintings and sculpture by artist Armando Nunez, is on display in the South Chula Vista Library’s Lane Galeria during September to mark the Library’s 15th anniversary.

Mr. Nuñez, a South Bay resident, was one of the artists directly involved in the library’s original construction and has exhibited internationally. His art career has included graphic designer, art director, consultant, sculptor, painter, and Sweetwater Union High School District faculty member.

Nuñez states that, “along with having the privilege to live for art, comes the social responsibility to preserve cultural traditions and beliefs, promote human heritage, and respond to the needs of the community.” “I feel it is important that art expands an individual’s mind and imagination to realize there are no limits on what they can be,” continued Nuñez. Library Director Betty Waznis said that she is, “very proud to be able to display the art of Mr. Nuñez at a time when the building will be celebrating its 15th anniversary, a Quinceañera to be held on September 25.”

The South Chula Vista Library was designed by renowned Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta. It received many awards when it opened in 1995, including seven Grand Orchids and the American Institute of Architects/San Diego Chapter Award of Honor for outstanding contribution in design. “Visitors and staff love the library’s inspiring design. It still attracts architecture students from many locales, something the city and community should be very proud of,” said Waznis.

The Chula Vista Public Library invites everyone to South Chula Vista Library’s 15th Anniversary/Quinceañera celebration on Saturday, September 25 from 9:30 am – 2 pm, for ballet folklórico, classical guitar performances, a poetry slam, family crafts, and much more.
