SPECIAL OLYMPICS FUNDRAISER

Area law enforcement officers are once again gathering together to help raise funds for the Special Olympics. On Thursday, September 23rd, a TIP A COP event will be held thanks to the support from the Sequim Applebee’s Restaurant. From 5 to 9pm, law enforcement officers will help the wait staff at Applebee’s and offer the opportunity for guests to “tip” not only the staff, but the officer as well. The tip for the officer will be
forwarded to Special Olympics of Washington in support of the Special Olympics.

This is the second time Applebee’s Restaurants have supported this cause with law enforcement officers. Last May, a breakfast was sponsored by all Western Washington Applebee’s Restaurant’s where proceeds went to the Special Olympics. Our local Applebee’s in Sequim finished first in proceeds collected, beating out much larger cities.

The Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. By participating in sports, physical fitness and healthcare education programs, Special Olympics athletes increase self-confidence and
social skills, improve physical and motor skills, and have better success in leading more productive and independent lives.

Over 8,000 athletes participate in Special Olympics Washington programs. All athletes participate at no cost to themselves or their families. Some of the athletes will be at Applebee’s on the 23rd.

Officers and deputies from Clallam County, Port Angeles Police, Port Townsend Police, and the Washington State Patrol are among the agencies that will participate.

Newly appointed Chief Bill Dickinson of the Sequim Police Department has also volunteered to help out.
