The NWS in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a winter storm watch, which is in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.
Significant snow is expected to develop Friday afternoon and continue into Saturday morning.
Main impact, 6 or more inches of snow accumulation possible. Snowfall of 6 or more inches is possible across the watch area by Saturday morning as a low pressure system moves through. The snow is expected to begin across west central and southwest Minnesota Friday morning and expand eastward into the twin cities by Friday afternoon.
At this time...the area of the heaviest snow is projected to be near a line from Alexandria through Willmar...Hutchinson...Mankato and Albert Lea. Some communities near this line may see snow totals of 8 inches or more.
Other impacts, visibility will be greatly reduced in the snow. Travel time may be considerably longer, especially for the Friday evening commute.
A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts as this watch could develop into a warning as this potential storm develops.
