Volunteers & Contractors Needed For Snow Removal. Contact Mayor Witte's office 716-376-5615 for details.
Mayor Linda Witte hopes to update a list of volunteers and contractors who can assist the city’s elderly and disabled with snow removal this winter.
I’m sure we’re going to need helpers this week especially because the weather forecast is for Lake Effect first and then more snow all week,” she said Monday.
The region received more than seven inches of fresh snowfall by Monday and Lake Effect bands were forecast to bring up to two inches an hour into parts of Cattaraugus County.
For the past several winters the names of volunteers and contractors have been supplied to callers who need help shoveling their sidewalks or driveways. Mayor Witte said this service will continue for residents, she is hopeful of updating the list with some new recruits. She noted some of the names on the list have moved or changed phone numbers.
Currently, there are more than 40 names on the list that was specifically created to aid senior citizens and disabled residents of the city. Most of the names on the list are individuals and volunteers, but some are contractors who will perform the service for a fee. The city will match callers with one or more volunteers or contractors who have expressed a willingness to work in that neighborhood.
Those who wish to stay on the list or who wish to be added to the list should call the Mayor’s office at 376-5615 as soon as possible.
Anyone needing snow shoveling services can call the Mayor’s Office at 376-5615. The caller will be asked to specify a neighborhood and will be responsible for contacting the volunteer or a contractor and arranging for the service.
City law states that residents must remove snow from sidewalks within 24 hours after the end of a snowfall in which four inches or more have fallen. Commercial businesses must keep sidewalks and commercial parking lots free of snow and ice at all times between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Failure to do so could result in the city taking on the task and the cost will be added to the property owner’s tax assessment.
Sincerely,
Mayor Linda L. Witte
