Arrest Made in Stolen MV from Delanco 7-11 Parking Lot
A Camden County man was arrested early Wednesday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase down Route 130 in a stolen car, police said.
Joseph E. Smith III, 28, of Pine Hill, was charged with motor vehicle theft, eluding police, reckless driving, and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
Officers attempted to stop Smith at 5:40 a.m. at Chester Avenue and Route 130.
He was driving a silver Ford Focus that was reported stolen moments earlier in nearby Delanco from the 7-11 parking lot on Burlington Avenue, police said.
Smith accelerated onto the southbound lanes of Route 130 and turned into the CVS pharmacy near Tenby Chase Drive. He then attempted to drive over the curb and onto the grass, but blew out a tire and crashed into a concrete barrier, according to police.
Smith was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
Officers also found him in possession of a hypodermic needle, police said.
He was then transferred to the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly in default of $60,000 bail.
