Advisory

The Chief has been approved in the sharing of a $444,965 cash seizure that will benefit our community. More in email.

DPS troopers contacted the Van Police Department to assist in the search of a vehicle with their police canine. Chief Smith, Officer Roberts, and K-9 Baxy arrived to assist. Officer located a hidden hydraulic compartment and obtained narcotic trafficking information that went from California to Florida. Further information was obtained that led to the cash seizure. Although the currency was not seized inside the city, it is a prominent display of open communication between state and local agencies that led to the successful seizure of a large asset that will benefit the citizens of our community, the police department, and make our community an even safer place to live.

The partnership that Chief Smith has developed with IRS Investgators that has allowed the Van Police Department to be one of only two agencies in the 32 county, Federal Eastern District of Texas make these efforts possible. The Chief of Police wants to express his appreciation for the continued support of the citizens of Van and the support of the Council for striving to make Van a safer and productive place to live.
