Winter weather advisory in effect until 5 am mst monday below 6000 feet... ...Winter storm warning now in effect until 5 am mst monday above 6000 feet...

The national weather service in Pocatello has issued a winter weather advisory below 6000 feet for snow and/or blowing snow ...which is in effect until 5 am mst monday. The winter storm warning above 6000 feet is now in effect until 5 am mst monday.

* Snow accumulations...1 to 2 feet above 6000 feet with up to 1 foot at or below 6000 feet.

* Timing...snow will begin today and continue through sunday night. At the lowest elevations...snow will change to rain for a bit on sunday afternoon but change back to snow sunday night.

* Locations include...lava hot springs...soda springs... Mccammon...fish creek summit...swan valley...emigrant summit... Montpelier...georgetown...paris...georgetown summit

* Winds...sustained 10 to 20 mph with up to 25 mph above 6000 feet. Gusts up to 35 mph are possible.

* Impacts...snow...moderate to heavy at times...with create hazardous driving conditions at times especially on higher passes. Warmer temperatures will allow for some melting on sunday especially at lower elevations. However...as temperatures cool sunday night...roads will try and refreeze along with new snow that falls on top of that. Backcountry skiers and snowmobile operators should be prepared for heavy snowfall in addition to the current snow pack.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight... Food...and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

A winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while driving.
