At the direction of Governor Edward Rendell, flags in the borough lowered to half staff in honor of Gunnery Sgt. Justin E. Schmalstieg USMC, killed while on active duty in Afghanistan. He was a member of the 1st Explosive Ordinance Disposal Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group based in Camp Pendleton, CA.
