Tips for a Safe and Happy Holiday
Here are some tips on how to celebrate safely this holiday season:

If you’re shopping
• Shop during daylight hours whenever possible. If you must shop at night, go with a friend or family member.
• Stay alert to your surroundings.
• Park in a well-lit space, and be sure to lock your car, close all windows and hide shopping bags or other valuables in the trunk.
• Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
• Deter pickpockets and purse-snatchers. Avoid overloading yourself with packages. Carry a purse close to your body.
• Keep a record of all your credit card issuer and notify them immediately if your credit card is lost, stolen or misused.
• Shopping with kids? Teach them to go to a store clerk or security guard if you get separated.

If you’re out for the evening
• Turn on lights and a radio so it appears someone is home.
• Be extra cautious about locking doors and windows.
• Don’t display gifts where they can be seen from outside.

If you’re traveling
• Get an automatic timer for your lights.
• Ask a neighbor to watch your home.
• Don’t forget to have mail and newspaper delivery stopped.
