Subject: A Blizzard Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service that may effect the Town of North Castle and the surrounding Hudson Valley Area has been issued beginning December 25 at 3:55PM. This warning will expire on December 27 at 6:00 PM unless weather conditions require an extension.

A Major Winter Storm Will Impact The Region From Sunday Through Monday Afternoon
A Blizzard Warning In Effect From 6 AM Sunday To 6 PM EST Monday
The National Weather Service In Upton Has Issued A Blizzard Warning which Is In Effect From 6 AM Sunday To 6 PM EST Monday. The Winter Storm Watch Is No Longer In Effect.
Locations Effected include...Northeast New Jersey...New York City And Its Immediate Suburbs...Lower Hudson Valley... Long Island...And Coastal And Interior Southeast Connecticut.
Hazards associated with this storm include:...Heavy Snow And Strong Winds...With Considerable Blowing And Drifting Of Snow And Near Zero Visibility At Times.
Accumulations expected...11 To 16 Inches...With Locally Higher Amounts Possible In Heavier Snow Bands Whose Exact Location Is Still Too Early To Determine. Snow May Mix With Or Change To Rain And Sleet At The Height Of The Storm Late Sunday Night Across Eastern Long Island...And Possibly Across Coastal Southeast Connecticut...Which Could Hold Down Amounts There...But Only After Significant Accumulations Have Already Taken Place.
Impacts of this storm include...Extremely Dangerous Travel Conditions Developing Due To Significant Snow Accumulations...And Strong Winds Causing Considerable Blowing And Drifting Of Snow. Visibilities Will Be Near Zero At Times...With Whiteout Conditions Expected. Strong Winds May Also Down Some Power Lines...Tree Limbs...And Christmas Decorations.
Timing for this storm and conditions ...Light Snow Will Likely Begin During Sunday Morning...Then Become Heavy At Times From Late Sunday Afternoon Into Much Of Sunday Night. Light Snows Will Likely Linger Into Monday Morning And Possibly Into Monday Afternoon.
Strong Winds associated with this storm....During The Height Of The Storm Sunday Night...North Winds Will Increase To 20 To 35 Mph With Gusts 40 To 55 Mph...Highest Across Central And Eastern Long Island.
A Blizzard Warning Means Severe Winter Weather Conditions Are Expected Or Occurring. Falling And Blowing Snow With Strong Winds And Poor Visibilities Are Likely. This Will Lead To Whiteout Conditions...Making Travel Extremely Dangerous. Do Not Travel. If You Must Travel...Have A Winter Survival Kit With You. If You Get Stranded...Stay With Your Vehicle.
If you are returning from a distance, this storm may have an effect on Mass Transit, Trains, and the Airlines even if winter weather conditions are not present where you are traveling from. Please check with you carrier to ensure your travel has not been delayed or cancelled due to weather in the New York Area.

Residents should not travel during this storm, even a short trip could be problematic and unsafe
Residents are reminded of the Town Snow Ordinance and asked to refrain from parking on the town roadways during this storm. This will assist the Town Highway Department in clearing the roadways and keeping them open for emergency vehicles and emergency Traffic.
All North Castle residents should prepare for the possibility of power outages during this time period extending into the overnight and until the posted NWS expiration date and time.
Residents experienceing an interuption in electrical service should contact Con Edison Directly at 1-800 75CONED to report their outage. All effected residents should call Con Edison even if the outage was reported by their neighbor.
The North Castle Office of Emergency Management is monitoring this storm and blizzard event and may activate the EOC if required to deal with situations arising from it.
