During the above time period, there were 65 Entering Auto reports taken by the Albany Police Department’s Uniform Bureau.

A further analysis of the incidents, made by Crime Analyst, David Sparks, revealed the following:

Out of the 65 incidents reported, 37% of the victims had their purses stolen. That’s about 24 purses stolen.

In 72 % of the incidents, where the 24 purses were taken, there was no forced entry which means the vehicle was left unsecured. In 28% of those same cases, there was forced entry; secured vehicles.

Out of the 65 entering auto cases reported, 13 cases involved theft of weapons. This is a total of 19 knives, shot guns, rifles, and handguns out on the street. Ten of the vehicles were left unsecured which is about 83%. 65% of those were forced entry.

In the remainder of the cases, miscellaneous items, such as I-Pods, car electronics, handheld game systems, garments, and tools were stolen.

These incidents occurred in both Residential and Commercial locations. The majority of the Residential incidents occurred during evening hours and the majority of the Commercial incidents occurred during the day.

The incidents reported occurred in the West District and the North portion of the Central District.
