SNOW NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM SIDEWALKS
SNOW NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM SIDEWALKS
The Williamston Police Department has been receiving calls from residents about a large number of sidewalks not being cleaned down to the cement, causing a public safety issue. It appears that residents have attempted to clean their sidewalks, but because of people walking on them, along with the melting and freezing, it becomes hard to remove all the snow and ice from the sidewalk. City Ordinance states, in part, that all snow and ice shall be removed within 24 hours after it has ceased if the accumulation is less than 4 inches and all such snow and ice shall be removed within 48 hours after the snow has ceased if the accumulation is more than 4 inches. If the snow and ice has not been removed after it has ceased accumulating, all such snow and ice will be removed at the owner’s expense.
Our main concern is for the safety of our residents and their children. Sidewalks that are not kept clean cause our residents to walk in the street to keep out of the snow. This is dangerous. We are asking residents to take responsibility, as a homeowner, and keep your sidewalks clean.
Please see City of Williamston Code of Ordinances, Chapter 50, Article II. Sec. 50-31 for further information.
