Two Deputies awarded Advanced Certification from NC Sheriffs' Training & Standards Commission

The NCSO is pleased to announce that two Deputies have recently been awarded the Advanced Certification from the North Carolina Sheriffs' Training and Standards Division. Deputy Elizabeth Cahoon and Corporal Greg Adams were both recently presented these awards by Sheriff Dick Jenkins.

Realizing the importance of recognizing our Sheriff's and the Deputies who serve the State of North Carolina so well, and attempting to foster increased interest in formal education and professional training programs, the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission offers a Professional Certificate Program. This program is designed to recognize those dedicated Deputy Sheriffs' for their education, professional training, and on-the-job experience. There are three levels of the Professional Certificate Program. A Basic Certificate is awarded after one year of full-time law enforcement experience. Following the Basic Certificate is the Intermediate Certificate, and then the Advanced Certificate. The Advanced Certificate is the highest award that a Deputy Sheriff can receive. It is attained through a systematic and detailed computation of experience, education, and training combined.

Deputy Cahoon is assigned to the Civil Division and has been employed at the Sheriff's Office since 2004. She is responsible for following up on all Domestic Violence investigations. She is also solely responsible for conducting checks on the County's 120+ registered sexual offenders. She ensures that the sex offenders are living where they are supposed to be living, and complying with all requirements of their sentences.

Corporal Adams is assigned to the Patrol Division and has been employed at the Sheriff's Office since 1998. Corporal Adams is also a member of the Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, where he has been a member since 2001, including serving as the K-9 Unit Supervisor.

Sheriff Dick Jenkins would like to congratulate both of these on their outstanding achievement.
