On Friday night at about 8:49PM, Industry Sheriff's Station deputies responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle that struck a telephone pole at the intersection of Baldwin Park Boulevard and Temple Avenue, in the city of Industry.

The driver reportedly dropped his cellular telephone while driving and leaned over to retrieve it. In so doing, the vehicle veered toward the curb and struck a telephone pole. The victim suffered a broken ankle and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The telephone pole was heavily damaged and live electrical wires fell to the ground. No loss of power to the surrounding residential community was reported and the traffic control signals at the intersection remained in operation.

Southern California Edison responded to the scene and made the necessary repairs.

Captain Michael Claus, Industry Sheriff’s Station, wanted to take this opportunity to warn the motoring public of the dangers of distracted driving.
