Wayne County declares Level III Prohibited Snow Emergency effective at 4:00 pm on Feb. 1, 2011
Level III Travel Prohibited Snow Emergency
Declared for Wayne County, Indiana
On February 1, 2011 at 12 Noon the Wayne County Commissioners declared a Level III Travel Prohibited Snow Emergency. The Level III Travel Prohibited Snow Emergency will be in effect from 4:00 PM today, February 1, 2011 until such time when weather and road conditions allow the routine and safe operation of motor vehicles on county roadways.
During the Level III Travel Prohibited Snow Emergency travel by the general public is prohibited on roads maintained by the Wayne County Highway Department. This declaration includes streets maintained by the Richmond Street Department and the Town of Centerville. All county roadways are closed to non-emergency vehicles and non-emergency personnel. Emergency personnel and members of critical occupations may travel for emergency purposes only:
This declaration does not include state or federal highways (examples- I-70, US 40, US 35, US 27, S.R. 38, S.R. 1, S.R. 227, S.R.121)
Emergency Personnel includes rostered members of law enforcement agencies, fire departments, emergency medical services, search and rescue, rescue squads, military, disaster relief organizations, emergency management and requested mutual-aid, partner organizations.
Critical Occupations includes employees of utility companies, highway departments, wrecker services, fuel suppliers, hospital and healthcare organizations, news media and railroad employees.
Safe travel may not be possible. Travel exposes motorists to significant risk of injury or death. Do not take un-necessary chances. This is an especially dangerous situation. Call your employer to make sure you are expected to report for work before you commit to hazardous travel.
Persons found in violation may be fined up to $150.00
Parking on county roads and the right-of way is prohibited. Vehicles which are parked in violation of this order will be removed at the owner’s expense.
Vehicles which are stalled, stranded or found abandoned on county roads or their right-of-way will also be removed at the owner’s expense.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department will maintain information on any vehicle towed or removed from a county road during this emergency. The Sheriff’s Department may be contacted at (765) 973-9393 for information concerning the disposition of any vehicle removed. The vehicle owner must pay any towing, storage or other fees before the vehicle may be released.
