E.M.P.A.C.T. Program strives to save taxpayer dollars and modify behavior of inmate.

Did You Know??

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office currently uses a satellite based monitoring system to track some non-violent offenders rather than holding them in secure custody. This system is known as E.M.P.A.C.T. (Electronic Monitoring Protection and Crime Tracking). This system allows for an inmate that would otherwise be held in jail to be released prior to going to trial so they can attend school, maintain employment, or seek counseling. This not only saves tax payer dollars but helps modify behavior of the inmate and helps keep them productive.

Individuals on the program wear a cuff on their ankle constantly and small belt device whenever they are away from home. They are monitored and can be located 24 hours a day and seven days a week by a central monitoring station and Sheriff’s Office staff.

Defendants are allowed to move about with restrictions which may include curfews, being at certain locations at certain times and staying away from certain locations.

The system also allows for running crime scene inquiries which determine whether or not a participant was in the vicinity of a crime by entering locations and times of its occurrence. This not only includes those individuals under the watch of the Nash County Sheriff but any placed on the program by other agencies using the same device.
