LAPD investigating fatal collision involving a Metrolink Train and a horseback rider
On Friday February 11, 2011, at approximately 3 pm, a man was riding his horse eastbound on the railroad tracks, when both the rider and the horse were struck by an eastbound Metrolink train near the intersection of San Fernando Road and Sheldon Street, in the community of Sylmar.
The 35 year old rider, a resident of North Hollywood, was pronounced dead at scene by rescue ambulance. The horse also died as a result of the collision. The passengers on the train were not injured in this incident.
The reason the rider and horse were on the tracks is still under investigation.
The name of the decedent will not be disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation is being handled by Valley Traffic Detectives.
