WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 11 PM MST THIS EVENING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 11 PM MST THIS EVENING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN POCATELLO HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 11 PM MST THIS EVENING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS, FOR ELEVATIONS BELOW 6500 FEET, EXPECT 1 TO 5 INCHES OF NEW SNOW. ABOVE THE 6500 FOOT ELEVATION, SNOW ACCUMULATIONS FROM TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT WILL RANGE FROM 3 TO 9 INCHES.

* TIMING - LIGHT SNOW WILL DEVELOP DURING THE MORNING THEN INTENSIFY DURING THE AFTERNOON FROM WEST TO EAST ACROSS THE SOUTH CENTRAL AND EASTERN HIGHLANDS OF IDAHO - THEN IN THE IDAHO WASATCH. WIND WILL DECREASE FROM WEST TO EAST DURING THE EVENING. HOWEVER, SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO ACCUMULATE FOR THE REST OF TONIGHT AND THROUGH FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT.

* LOCATIONS INCLUDE: LAVA HOT SPRINGS, SODA SPRINGS, MCCAMMON, FISH CREEK SUMMIT, SWAN VALLEY, GRAYS LAKE NWR, MALAD, OAKLEY, CITY OF ROCKS, CONNOR SUMMIT, SWEETZER, SUMMIT, MALAD SUMMIT, MONTPELIER, GEORGETOWN, PARIS, GEORGETOWN SUMMIT, PRESTON

* WINDS, LIGHT WIND WILL INCREASE FROM WEST TO EAST ACROSS THIS REGION, REACHING 15 TO 30 MPH DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.

* IMPACTS, WIND OF THIS SPEED, COMBINED WITH EVEN THE LIGHT SNOWFALL EXPECTED BELOW 6500 FEET, WILL CAUSE HEAVY DRIFTING OF SNOW AND LOW VISIBILITIES FOR DRIVERS. HEAVY DRIFTING MAY MEAN TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES AS SNOW CONTROL RESOURCES ARE STRETCHED. INTERSTATE 84 FROM THE INTERSTATE 86 JUNCTION TO THE IDAHO-UTAH BORDER AND OTHER ROADS IN THE RAFT RIVER VALLEY WILL BE THE MOST DIFFICULT AREA FOR DRIVERS.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES, AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
