HAZARDOUS WEATHER EVENTS FOR THE NORTH CASTLE AREA BEGINNING WITH HEAVY RAINFALL TONIGHT THURSDAY FEBRUARY 24,2011

A High Wind Watch Remains In Effect From Friday February 25, 2011 Morning Through Friday Evening...


* Locations... NORTH CASTLE NY ...New York City Metro...Long Island...Northeast New Jersey...Southern Portions Of The Lower Hudson Valley... Coastal Connecticut...And All Of New London County.

* Winds...Southwest Winds 15 To 30 Mph With Potential Wind Gusts Of 55 Mph To 60 Mph...Then Shifting To The Northwest Behind A Cold Front In The Evening With Similar Gusts.

* Timing...The Strongest Wind Gusts Will Be From Late Friday Afternoon Into The First Half Of The Evening.

* Impacts...These Strong Gusty Winds Could Bring Trees And Power Lines Down, Causing Power Outages & Blocked Roadways. If You Come Upon Downed Tees Or Wires STAY AWAY and Report Them Immediately To The Local Police Department.

Use Extreme Caution When Driving...Especially Over Bridges And Overpasses.

Secure Light Weight Objects Outside Your Home.

A High Wind Watch Means There Is The Potential For A Hazardous High Wind Event.

THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY AS LOW PRESSURE MOVES ACROSS THE AREA. THIS MAY CAUSE POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING ACROSS URBAN AREAS AS WELL AS BASEMENT FLOODING.

THERE IS A SMALL CHANCE THAT AREAS RECEIVING MULTIPLE BURSTS OF STRONGER CONVECTION COULD EXPERIENCE LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING. THE STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS MAY ALSO RESULT IN BEACH EROSION AT SOUTH FACING OCEAN BEACHES.

National Weather Service Forecast for White Plains/North Castle Area:

Today: A slight chance of light rain after 3pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 43. Calm wind becoming south between 4 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight: Rain, mainly after 9pm. Patchy fog after 3am. Low around 33. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday: Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 9am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Patchy fog before noon. High near 52. Breezy, with a south wind 6 to 9 mph increasing to between 19 and 22 mph. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday Night: A chance of rain before 9pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 23. Breezy, with a northwest wind 19 to 22 mph decreasing to between 10 and 13 mph. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.
Saturday Night: A slight chance of snow after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: A chance of snow before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Sunday Night: A chance of rain and sleet. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday: Rain and sleet likely. Cloudy, with a high near 49. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Monday Night: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 34. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

All North Castle residents should prepare for the possibility of power outages during this time period extending into the overnight and until the posted NWS expiration date and time.

Residents experienceing an interuption in electrical service should contact Con Edison Directly at 1-800 75CONED to report their outage. All effected residents should call Con Edison even if the outage was reported by their neighbor.

The North Castle Office of Emergency Management is monitoring this high wind event and may activate the EOC if required to deal with situations arising from it.
