"Young Men in Purpose" celebrates its One Year Anniversary:

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend a cookout and celebration on Saturday, March 12, 2011 from 1000 am til 1200 pm at the Fellowship Of Christ Church at 1001 Tarboro St., Rocky Mount, N.C..
There will be a celebration of the first year Anniversary of the “Young Men In Purpose” outreach program for young men. This program was started on February 20, 2010 with only 10 boys and a core of dedicated men determined to make a difference in the lives of young men in this area. Because of our programs unique appeal to the needs and interests of young men of all ages, it has steadily grown to affect the lives of over 86 young boys. This year has been action packed with such activities as military drills, relay races, boxing, nature marches, a trip to a Duke vs Miami live football game, two jail tours, patriotic events honoring Law Enforcement, hunter safety and marksmanship. We instill such character traits as respect for authority, honesty, teamwork, anger management and how to avoid the pitfalls of the gang culture and how to get a new start after gang involvement, plus many other much needed disciplines.

"Young Men in Purpose" is an outreach program that targets at-risk teenage boys. The program was started and is run by 1st Sgt. Ted Williams of the NCSO Detention Center. Sgt. Williams has shown great responsibility and caring for the kids of the community, and has given back to that community, as do many other employees of the Sheriff's Office.
