Barricaded Domestic Abuse Suspect Arrested after Stand-off with Police
Enid Police responded to a report of domestic abuse occurring at a residence in the 1000 block of North Davis early Tuesday morning, April 4, 2011. At 3:43 am, Officers made contact with the 29 year old victim at a neighbor’s house, who said she was beaten with a ball bat, strangled and assaulted over a two day period. The woman said she escaped to a neighbor’s house after the suspect left her alone for a short period of time, Tuesday morning. The officers noted the woman having visible and recent injuries all over her body. The officers attempted to make contact with the live-in boyfriend who was identified as Jason Childress, 30, of Enid, who retreated back into the woman’s house. After gaining entry into the house, officer’s discovered the man had barricaded himself in the attic. Due to the possibility that Childress had possession of a firearm, the Enid Police Department SWAT team was activated and responded to the scene, along with an EPD crisis negotiator. Childress surrendered to the police at about 6:30 am and taking into custody. Marijuana, drug paraphernalia and weapons were seized from the residence. Childress was booked into the Garfield County Detention Center on complaints of domestic battery by strangulation, possession of CDS, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm during the Commission of a felony.
