Suspicious Subject call leads to vehicle chase, home invasion, and suicide.
On 4-6-11 at approximately 2345 hrs, Deputies were dispatched to a suspicious person in a vehicle call near the L&L convenience store in Sandy Cross. Upon arrival, the Deputy pulled up to the vehicle and saw a male subject with a ski mask and gloves on. Upon seeing the Deputy, the suspect fled in the vehicle and a short vehicle chase ensued down West Mount Drive towards I-95. The suspect wrecked his vehicle at West Mount Drive and I-95 and fled on foot. Units attempted to set up a perimeter and members of the NCSO K9 Unit were called in to attempt to track the suspect. While searching the woods for the suspect, the NCSO received a call of a Burglary-in-progress at 6015 Leon Road, which is very near the location of the wreck. Deputies responded to that location. Upon their arrival there, they were met by the male homeowner who advised that the suspect was still inside the house. Deputies made entry into the house and confronted the suspect. Upon being confronted by law enforcement, the suspect had a handgun in his possession, and shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. No Deputies or citizens were hurt during the incident. The suspect has not been positively identified as of yet. Once positive identification is made, next of kin will be notified, before his identity is released. Based on all information gathered to this point, both the Suspicious Person Case and the Burglary Case are believed to be linked, and are believed to be the same person, however this case remains open pending further investigation.
