FROM THE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
This week may get interesting as we move towards the weekend. Keep in mind that all of this is relative but is a pretty good analogy of what we are thinking at this time. There is a chance that we could see some much needed rainfall as the week progresses. Timing will be the main issue for this to happen.
Briefly, we have a cold front that has passed through the area this morning. Our high temps today will be near 70 with strong north winds 15-25 mph. Tonight’s low will be near 40 with strong north winds. This front will pose a severe threat to the southeastern part of the state, just what they need right now.
We should see moisture return from the gulf by late Wednesday which should help in rain chances as it begins to interact with another storm system moving in from the Northwest late in the evening on Wednesday or on Thursday. It should move on through as another storm system moves in on Friday. This system on Friday will stall over the state and hopefully bring a better chance for rain as a strong system to the west moves in late Friday into Saturday. This could almost give you a headache!!
If all of this works out, we could see much needed rainfall. A lot can happen between now and this weekend so we’ll hope for the best. There may be a severe threat closer to the weekend but remember things can change. We’ll keep an eye out and advise accordingly.
The FIRE DANGER IS HIGH. We are discouraging ANY controlled burning right now. We are NOT in a County Commissioner declared burn ban here in Garfield County and there is not a Governor declared burn ban either. Keep in mind that even on a calm day, controlled burns can get out of control. Fire has a way of creating it’s own weather and can be just as dangerous. Check with your local Fire officials before considering a burn. In Enid, you need a permit, so stay legal and safe.
Many have ask when the next class will be that I teach on weather. It is tonight from 6 to 8 pm at the Autry-tech. It’s free so come out and learn more about our weather. I do give C.E.U.’S to Law Enforcement for attending.
Remember, have a plan, exercise that plan, and stay safe.
Have a great day!!
