FROM THE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

It's Friday!!

Today through the middle of next week we will see quite a warm-up. Today’s high in the 80’s will give way to possibly the mid 90’s by Sunday afternoon. There is a very slight chance of t-storms tonight as a trough works through the area but unless we see some sort of moisture come in at least the mid levels, we should remain dry. Sunday, our chances do go up but moisture will be a challenge. By late afternoon on Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be transitioning back into our normal spring time pattern. We will have an upper level storm system working its way towards us and a very defining dry line will set up. Moisture may be an issue but with high temps and convergence we may see some t-storms develop. If they do, they will go severe quickly. The main issue besides moisture will be the strong capping inversion that will need to be overcome. Parameters look to see this happen. Main threats will be large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. Keep in mind that these threats are apparent with all severe weather. This is a ways out so we’ll watch and advise again on Monday.

Over the weekend, we will see high temps and light winds. As with all good weather, many will be out doing what they do so be a bit more diligent in watching out for the other guy, so to speak. Also, the fire danger is still very high so be extremely careful if you go camping or just spending time out in the area. We are still in a severe drought as is the western half of the state, so again be careful.

Thursday May 12th is the last day I teach the weather class at Autry Tech. It starts at 6pm and will last about an hour and a half or so. The class is free but you will need to register with Autry. Anyone interested may attend. C.L.E.E.T. CEU’S are given for law enforcement personnel.

For those of you who have any of our warning radios, we are having a problem with some of them beeping all the time. This is due to a software issue within the radio. I have a device coming that will upgrade the software and hopefully solve the problem. I will send out an email when the device arrives.

Have a great weekend and stay safe.

Mike
