On 05-11-11, Chaska Police officers responded to the area of Clover Ridge Elementary for a report of a suspicious male in the area. The caller was concerned that the male was hanging around the area of the school where children gathered. The caller also expressed concerns that the male matched a description of a person who reportedly approached and chased a child in Victoria.
The man seen in Chaska did not approach any children or commit any crimes while in the area. The Chaska Police Department is confident that the incident being investigated by the Carver County Sheriff’s Office in Victoria and the suspicious male report in Chaska are not related.
Chaska Police officers have identified and interviewed the male seen in the area of Clover Ridge Elementary. They believe at this time that he is not related to the incident in Victoria. Officers have verified that the man had a legitimate reason to be in the area at the time.
The report in Victoria is being investigated by the Carver County Sheriff’s Office. In that incident, it was reported that an older man in a silver car chased a juvenile male down the street. That man was described as approximately 5’8” tall, roughly 170-180 lbs with white/gray hair slightly balding on the top and a beard. That case is still under investigation.
We encourage all residents to teach your children age-appropriate safety practices. Children should understand how to be assertive and get away from someone that makes them feel afraid or uncomfortable and that they should never approach a vehicle or accept a ride unless you have told them it is okay.
