Issued By: NWS Storm Prediction Center Has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the North Castle Area and these Affected Jurisdictions: Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Orange, Putnam, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk, Westchester Counties

Severe Thunderstorm Watch 452 Is In Effect Until 1000 PM EDT

Thursday June 06, 2011 Per the National Weather, as a cold front moves southeast into moist unstable air, lines of showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop later this afternoon and last through this evening. A few storms could become severe, producing damaging winds and/or large hail in addition to torrential rain that could produce flash flooding.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed our entire local area under a Slight Risk for Severe Thunderstorms with damaging winds and large hail being the primary threat. Stay tuned for potential watches and warnings later this afternoon.

Please note that the Upton NWS continues to experience technical difficulties with the operation of NOAA Weather Transmitters, which are currently “down.”

National Weather Service Forecast for White Plains:This Afternoon: Widespread haze. Mostly sunny, with a high near 96. West wind around 10 mph.

Tonight: Scattered thunderstorms before 2am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. West wind between 5 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Northeast wind between 5 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. East wind between 8 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Saturday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a low around 60. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Sunday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. Chance of precipitation is 40%.


ADDITIONAL LOCAL INFORMATION from NORTH CASTLE OEM

All North Castle residents should prepare for the possibility of power outages during this time period extending into the overnight and until the posted NWS expiration date and time.

Residents experienceing an interuption in electrical service should contact Con Edison Directly at 1-800 75CONED to report their outage. All effected residents should call Con Edison even if the outage was reported by their neighbor.

The North Castle Office of Emergency Management is monitoring this high wind event and may activate the EOC if required to deal with situations arising from it. Additional information regarding incidents arising from this event will be sent when available through nixle.
