On Monday, June 13th, at approximately 2:45AM, a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision occurred near the intersection of Reseda Boulevard and Bassett Avenue. The pedestrian was walking in the roadway pushing a shopping cart when the car hit him. The pedestrian was pushed to the ground, and the shopping cart was pushed over. The suspect immediately fled the scene.

The pedestrian laid on the ground for several hours within the debris field of his recycling containers until observed by Los Angeles Police Officers conducting routine patrol. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Following leads left at scene and after an exhaustive search by Los Angeles Police Officers, the suspect’s car was located several blocks away from the traffic collision scene. Officers contacted the male owner of the car, and he was taken into custody for hit and run felony. Jose Berrios, 30 years old, a resident of Reseda, CA, was booked for 20001(a)VC, Hit and Run Felony causing death.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Valley Traffic Detectives are searching for any possible witnesses to the collision.
