7/06/11 at 1:45 PM two males posed as utility workers in attempt to burglarize house on Fairview Drive.
West Manheim Twp. Police are investigating the attempted burglary of a residence where the homeowner was lured from their house.
On July 6, 2011 at 1:45 pm a Fairview Drive resident saw a male wearing an orange safety vest walking in his back yard. Through a window the resident asked the subject what he was doing and was told there was a “utility emergency with electric lines” and that he need to evacuate his house immediately.
Shortly after the resident exited the house he saw a second subject attempting to gain entry through a side door however the resident had locked all doors before leaving. Recognizing this as suspicious the man went back into his house and called 911. The subjects quickly left in a vehicle described as a newer station wagon type vehicle, possibly a crossover, white in color.
The two males were dark skinned, possibly Hispanic in their 30’s and were carrying walkie-talkies.
Legitimate utility workers typically wear photo identification and their vehicles are well marked. Residents approached by a utility worker should assure they are legitimate by requesting to see identification or calling the utility company. Suspicious activity should be reported to 911 immediately.
