CHILD SAFETY SEATS 
LAW: Children must be properly restrained in a safety seat or booster seat until they are at least 6 years old OR weigh 60 pounds.
Did you know car crashes are the leading cause of death and disability for children ages 1 to 15?
The good news is by using properly installed child passenger safety seats, many of these deaths and injuries can be prevented.
Research shows child safety seats can reduce deaths by as much as 71% for infants, and 54% for toddlers.
Although nationally four out of five car seats are installed incorrectly, parents can do their part to make their child safe by doing the following:
1. Always read the installation instructions, which accompany the car seat and your vehicle.
2. Select the most appropriate car seat that best fits your child and your vehicle.
3. Buckle-up children in the back seat. Rear seats have proven to be the safest seats in the vehicle.
4. Never install a rear-facing car seat onto the front seat of a vehicle with a front-passenger airbag.
5. Rear-face your child until maximum limits until the car seat instructions allow. Rear-facing provides the best protection for child's neck and spinal cord.
6. Always check for a tight fit and make sure your child is securely buckled up.
Remember, children are never safe in your lap!
It's important to have the proper seat for your child's size and weight.
After you have used a child seat for 5 years, the integrity of the seat becomes questionable. It is recommended the child seat be replaced.
