An Excessive Heat Watch Has Been Issued for the North Castle Area Begining Thursday 7/21 AM and Ending Friday 7/22 PM

Issued By: NWS New York City - Upton (Long Island and New York City) Affected Jurisdictions: Lower Hudson Valley, Westchester County, Including the North Castle Area.

A Prolonged Period Of Excessive Heat May Possibly Imact Our Area Thursday July 21, 2011 This is Possible Due To A Large Dome Of High Pressure Across The Central United States That Will Gradually Move East And Spread An Increasingly Hot And Humid Air Mass Across The Region Starting Thursday Afternoon.

An Excessive Heat Watch In Effect From Thursday July 21, 2011 In The Afternoon Through Friday July 22, 2011 In The Evening

Hazards: Excessive Heat With Afternoon Temperatures Of 95 To 100 Degrees Thursday And Friday Afternoons.

Heat Index Values: Up To Around 105 Degrees Thursday Afternoon And Up To Around 110 Degrees Friday Afternoon.

Timing: Thursday And Friday Afternoon And Evenings Mainly From Noon Until 10 PM Each Day

Impacts: Potential Impacts Include Heat Disorders For Children, The Elderly And People Performing Physical Activities During The Peak Heating Of The Day.

An Excessive Heat Watch Means That The Combination Of Heat And Humidity Could Create A Dangerous Situation In Which Heat Illnesses Are Possible. Take Extra Precautions If You Work Or Spend Time Outside. When Possible. Reschedule Strenuous Activities To Early Morning Or Evening. Know The Signs And Symptoms Of Heat Exhaustion And Heat Stroke. Wear Light Weight And Loose Fitting Clothing When Possible And Drink Plenty Of Water.

To Reduce Risk During Outdoor Work The Occupational Safety And Health Administration Recommends Scheduling Frequent Rest Breaks In Shaded Or Air Conditioned Environments. Anyone Overcome By Heat Should Be Moved To A Cool And Shaded Location.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. South wind between 5 and 9 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 68. South wind around 6 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 91. Southwest wind between 8 and 15 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 74. West wind between 3 and 6 mph.

Friday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. West wind between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 73.

All North Castle residents should prepare for the possibility of power outages during this time period extending into the overnight and until the posted alert expiration date and time.

Residents experienceing an interuption in electrical service should contact Con Edison Directly at 1-800 75CONED to report their outage. All effected residents should call Con Edison even if the outage was reported by their neighbor.

The North Castle Office of Emergency Management is monitoring this high Heat and Humidity event and may activate the EOC if required to deal with situations arising from it. Additional information regarding incidents arising from this event will be sent when available through nixle.
