LASD METRO SHERIFF'S TO REINITIATE EXPLORER PROGRAM
LASD METRO SHERIFF'S TO REINITIATE EXPLORER PROGRAM
LASD Transit Services Bureau is happy to announce that they are reinitiating their Police Explorer Program. The Explorer program is a vital resource to Sheriff's department and great stepping stone for youth who are interested in a law enforcement career. We invite all interested persons, between the ages of 15-21 to join our Post.
The Transit Services Bureau (TSB), LASD's unit that provides law enforcement services to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has seven different locations that Explorers may be assigned. Including Downtown L.A., El Monte, Downey, Willowbrook, Chatsworth, and Lemert Park. TSB Explorers also have a wide variety of assignments. Such as patrol, Special Problems Unit, Detective Bureau, Station desk operations, and special events.
There are two Explorer Academy locations to choose from (STARS Center, Whittier or College of the Canyons, Santa Clarita). Each location has a web address that provides upcoming academy dates, locations, and “what to expect” information and videos:
South Academy (STARS): www.starsexploreracademy.org
North Academy (College of the Canyons): www.northacademyexplorers.org
TSB's new Explorer Advisor, Detective Cris Reyes is excited about bringing back the explorer program to the unit. "We will register successful applicants at the academy location of their choice. I'm really looking forward to working with young people who want to get started in a law enforcement career or those who just want to help better their communities." said Reyes.
All interested applicants must complete an explorer application and return it to Det. Reyes by August 12, 2011. If you unable print one off of the websites, you may pick one up at the TSB Gateway Plaza front counter. (located in the MTA Building, 1 Gateway Plaza, Los Angeles, 90012, next to Union Station) All applicants are required to pass an oral interview, complete a pre-academy physical, and successfully pass a through background investigation, prior to acceptance into the Explorer Academy.
