Traffic Congestion 
WT A&M University and CISD will kick off a new year starting August 22, 2011. There will be a substantial increase in automobile traffic coming into Canyon. In addition there will be more pedestrian traffic in and around WT. Canyon Police ask that drivers be aware of these areas in weeks to come. Put down those cell phones and focus on your driving to minimize the distraction in the car.
Motorist coming to Canyon should expect slow moving traffic north of Spur 48. Traffic will be make frequent start and stops in response to the traffic light at Russell Long Blvd. US 87 north of the Spur is notorious for rear end accidents when classes first start. Police patrols will be directed to the north end of town to slow traffic.
Speed zones in and around schools will be aggressively enforced. Drivers don’t forget to yield to Pedestrians in Crosswalks.
SLO Cody Jones said that the bus loading and unloading has moved to the south side of Canyon High School.
