Information & Weather Updates Related to Hurricane Irene Which is Going to Impact Our Area Over the Next 24 Hours
The following information is compiled from the North Castle Emergency Operation Center Executive Briefing. All Town Offices and Departments attend these informational meetings and strategy session. This information is a portion of the information discussed to protect and help you during this time.
Weather Update From NOAA - North Castle/Westchester County
Tonight...Tropical storm conditions expected with hurricane conditions possible. Rain with isolated thunderstorms. Rain may be heavy at times. Lows around 70. East winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph...increasing to 40 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph after midnight. Chance of rain near 100 percent.
Sunday...Tropical storm conditions expected with hurricane conditions possible. Rain with isolated thunderstorms in the morning...then rain in the afternoon. Rain may be heavy at times in the morning. Humid with highs in the lower 70s. East winds 45 to 65 mph...becoming northwest 50 to 70 mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 80 mph. Chance of rain near 100 percent.
Sunday Night...Tropical storm conditions possible with hurricane conditions also possible. Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers in the evening...then mostly clear after midnight. Cooler. Less humid with lows in the mid 50s. Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph...becoming west 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph after midnight. Chance of rain 50 percent.
Monday...Sunny. Highs in the upper 70s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
Monday Night...Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 50s. Northwest winds around 5 mph.
HURRICANE UPDATE From Supervisor William Weaver
As I wrote yesterday, Town of North Castle personnel are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best as a result of Hurricane Irene.
If you have a life-threatening emergency and need help, please call 911. If your need is not life-threatening, please call North Castle Police at 273-9500.
Please continue to monitor the progress of the storm. At the present time, we expect the rain to continue overnight with sustained winds of 30-40mph and gusts up to 70mph beginning around 9:00pm.
Our Office of Emergency Management, Highway crews, Police, and all appropriate staff will be working during the storm. Volunteers in the Fire Departments in North White Plains, Armonk and Banksville are standing ready. North Castle Emergency Operations Center is fully staffed to deal with this event. We are prepared to respond.
North Castle Citizen Corps Council volunteers will be at the Hergenhan Center from 4pm until 10pm tonight and on standby thereafter. If you require overnight sheltering, please call North Castle Police at 273-9500.
In order to assist our emergency responders to help you and your neighbors, please stay off roads for the duration of the storm. Expect downed trees, power outages and some flooding which will necessitate closing roads in Town. Several road closures are planned throughout the County, including most parkways.
To report power interruptions or service problems, use the
Con Ed website or call 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).
Immediately report downed wires to North Castle Police. Do not approach the area of any downed wires, even if they appear to be inactive. If you encounter standing water on a roadway, do not drive through it. Leave all road barricades in place and choose an alternate route.

Check on relatives, friends and neighbors - particularly anyone you know who has special needs. If you cannot check on someone who may need assistance, contact North Castle Police at 273-9500.

ADDITIONAL LOCAL INFORMATION from NORTH CASTLE OEM
All North Castle residents should prepare for the possibility of power outages and roadway flooding & closures during this time period extending into the overnight and until the posted expiration date and time.
Residents experienceing an interuption in electrical service should contact Con Edison Directly at 1-800 75CONED to report their outage. All effected residents should call Con Edison even if the outage was reported by their neighbor. If your home is protected by a generator unit, it is still very important for you to report your outage. Response to your area depends on the number of homes without electrical power, so please report your outage.
The North Castle Office of Emergency Management is monitoring this HAZARDOUS WEATHER Event and is active at a LEVEL 3 Condition to deal with situations arising from it. Additional information regarding incidents arising from this event will be sent when available through nixle.
