An Update on the Effects of Hurricane Irene from the Office of Supervisor William Weaver.
An Update about the Effects of Hurricane Irene
Many roads across the Town have been impacted, making it difficult for residents to travel safely. The wind last evening brought down more trees.
Route 128 has been cleared. Route 120 has been cleared. Route 22 south of Banksville Road has been cleared. Byram Lake Road has been cleared as of 12:30pm. Work continues to clear Route 22 north of Banksville Road.
Currently more than 80% of the Town of North Castle is without electric service. Con Edison, private contractors and Town crews are working around the clock. Every part of Town is affected.
Many trees came down, taking utility wires with them. Service wires, primary wires and transformers have been negatively affected. Con Edison estimates that power will be restored to most North Castle areas by midnight Thursday evening.
Our priority is to open as many roads as possible for those residents whose roads are blocked by downed trees and utility service wires.
Hergenhan Recreation Center is being staffed by NC4 volunteers today until 10:00pm and offers a hot shower, a snack and a place to charge your cell phone. The Gym in Business Park has generously offered use of showers to North Castle residents after 1:00pm today, tomorrow and Wednesday. Bring your personal toiletries and towels.
A word about 911: Please only dial 911 if you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency. If you have a personal emergency that is not life-threatening, call North Castle Police at 273-9500.
Check on your neighbors and family. Please be patient as we work to open roads and restore electric service as quickly as possible.
Sincerely,
William R. Weaver, Supervisor
