Pedestrian Hit by Car Dies from Injuries 
On August 19, 2011, at 4:22 p.m., the Cypress Police Department received several 911 calls reporting a traffic accident at the intersection of Katella Avenue and Meridian Drive. Callers reported a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The first officers arrived on scene within minutes and reported the pedestrian was unconscious and had significant injuries to his head and torso. The party that struck the pedestrian was not injured. The Orange County Fire Authority paramedics arrived and treated the pedestrian and transported him to UCI Medical Center in Orange.
The pedestrian was identified as Michael Allen Cyr (D.O.B. 2-21-61) of Santa Ana. Mr. Cyr succumbed to his injuries on August 31, 2011.
The regional Serious Traffic Accident Response (STAR) team is handling the investigation. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Officer Matt Ward at (714) 229-6603. The driver’s identity is not being released at this time and he has not been charged with a crime as the collision remains under investigation.
