FLOOD WATCH NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ352 AM EDT MON SEP 5 2011...NARROW BANDS OF EXCESSIVE FLOODING RAINS POSSIBLE LATER TODAY INTO WEDNESDAY....A COLD FRONT WILL SLOWLY MOVE ACROSS OUR REGION LATE TODAY AND TONIGHT...THEN STALL ALONG THE DELMARVA TUESDAY.
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
