...EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL OCCUR IN MUCH OF THE FLOOD WATCH AREA
THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...
...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...
THE FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR
* PORTIONS OF NORTHERN DELAWARE...NORTHEAST MARYLAND...NEW
JERSEY AND PENNSYLVANIA...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS... IN NEW JERSEY......HUNTERDON
* THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING
* THIS WATCH INCLUDES MUCH OF THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR NORTHWESTWARD
INTO PENNSYLVANIA.
* ALREADY 1 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN HAD FALLEN YESTERDAY AND OVERNIGHT
IN A SWATH ACROSS THE NORTHWEST THIRD OF THE WATCH AREA. THIS
INCLUDED THE DAILY RECORD 2 INCHES AT READING PENNSYLVANIA TO
AROUND 2 AND ONE HALF INCHES IN ALLENTOWN TO A MAXIMUM OF NEARLY
3 AND ONE HALF INCHES AT LAKE HOPATCONG IN SUSSEX COUNTY NEW
JERSEY.
* THAT WAS JUST A START. ANOTHER ROUND OF HEAVY TO POTENTIALLY
EXCESSIVE RAINS IS ON THE WAY. THIS NEXT BATCH NOW MOVING
NORTHEAST FROM VIRGINIA IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP INTO THE WATCH
AREA THIS AFTERNOON. NEW AMOUNTS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT
SHOULD RANGE BE NEAR 1 INCH ALONG THE SOUTHEAST FLANK OF THE
WATCH AREA...NEAR AND SOUTHEAST OF THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR.
HOWEVER...AROUND 2 TO POSSIBLY AS MUCH AS 4 MORE INCHES IS
EXPECTED FROM THE LEHIGH VALLEY AND POCONOS OF PENNSYLVANIA
INTO A SIZABLE PART OF NORTHERN NEW JERSEY.
* THIS SHOULD RESULT IN MORE EXTENSIVE FLOODING INCLUDING
BASEMENT...STREET AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING. SOME OF THE LARGER
RIVERS ARE EXPECTED TO RESPOND MORE SLOWLY BUT ALSO RISE INTO
MINOR OR MODERATE FLOOD LATER WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY.
* THERE IS A CHANCE FOR ADDITIONAL SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL IN
NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY WEDNESDAY NIGHT OR THURSDAY.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON
CURRENT FORECASTS.
YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE
FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE
PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION BY MOVING TO HIGHER GROUND SHOULD
FLOODING DEVELOP.
