Schuylkill River cresting
Berks County is beginning to experience flooding from the heavy rains currently affecting the area. Periods of heavy rain are expected to continue to fall over the County as well as over the headwaters of the Schuylkill River for the next 24-48 hours. The Schuylkill is anticipated to crest above flood stage at all points in Berks County. Small creek, stream, and urban flooding are all anticipated to occur throughout the County as well.
The following are updated river crest forecasts from National Weather Service as of 03:30 hrs on 9/8
Schuylkill River at Berne - 15 feet 14:00 on 9/8 – moderate flood stage (less than 4' below 2006)
Schuylkill River at Reading - 18.6 feet at 20:00 on 9/8 – moderate flood stage.
Schuylkill River at Pottstown - 20.5 feet at 02:00 on 9/9 – high end of moderate flood stage (this is equal to 2006 level).
These numbers reflect a minor rise in projected river crest from the 2100 projections.
