New Castle Co. police officer killed while taking person into custody 
NEW CASTLE, Del. — Authorities say a New Castle County officer has been killed in a fight with a person he was taking into custody.
Cpl. John Weglarz Sr. says the 18-year veteran of the department was called to the Penn Acres community near New Castle about midnight Thursday for a report of a disorderly person. Weglarz says the officer was taking the person into custody when he was fatally injured.
The officer was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.
Weglarz says the suspect is in custody and that authorities are still investigating the incident.
