National Teen Driver Safety Week
Natiional Teen Driver Safety Week (NTDSW)--- October 16-22, 2011 is dedicated to raising awareness and seeking solutions to unnecessary teen deaths on the road. Established by Congress in 2007 and held annually during the third week of October, NTDSW's goal is to focus the country's attention on serious issues.
Car crashes are the No. 1 cause of death for teens. That's why NTDSW is a perfect time to remind parents and teens that seat belts are their number 1 defense against injury and death from traffic crashes.
Parents of teen drivers must take an active roll in keeping teen drivers safe as part of NTDSW and throughout the year. The Canyon Police Department to conduct extra enforcement in areas around schools and where teens congregate. Enforcing state seat belt laws, graduated drivers license requirements , as well as watching for other traffic violations which put teens and other drivers at risk of injury or death from a crash is one of the most important jobs the police department can do for the community.
