New Search Begins to Find Missing Trooper
BIG LAKE, Mo.—
The search for a missing Missouri State Trooper presumed to have drowned in flood waters in northwest Missouri last month is set to begin anew on Wednesday, as searchers focus on a deep "hole" filled with flood water near where he disappeared.
Trooper Fred Guthrie disappeared near Bigelow last month during his Water Patrol shift. His K-9 partner was found several days later, drowned by flood waters from the Missouri River.
On Wednesday, authorities are focusing their search for Guthrie in the area near highways 118 and 111. Searchers are consulting with engineers about pumping flood water from a deep hole gouged out by flood waters.
Searchers think Guthrie's body may be there, but the water is currently too deep to know for certain.
