Anamosa Officer Dies While On Duty
An Anamosa police officer and part-time deputy for the Jones County sheriff’s office has died while on duty, officials said.
Officer David S. Riches, 34, died early Monday morning, but his death is not considered suspicious, Anamosa Police Chief Bob Simonson said in a news release. No other details about the death were immediately released.
Because of Riches’ status as an officer, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called in to investigate, authorities said. More information was expected to be released after an autopsy was completed.
Gaye Riches, of Onslow, said the last communication her son had with the family was around midnight when he sent a text message to his brother. She said the family still had many questions.
“He was my son,” Riches said in a brief phone interview. “I loved him.”
