"No Bands Bandit" Arrested for Bank Robberies in Hacienda Heights and Santa Ana
A suspect wanted for bank robberies in two counties is in custody after a witness recognized him from a wanted flier and called the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Special Agents of the FBI and investigators with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau soon took him into custody Thursday afternoon in Anaheim, in a parole office of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Known as the “No Bands Bandit,” the suspect is believed to have committed bank robberies in the City of Santa Ana (Orange County) and the community of Hacienda Heights (Los Angeles County).
Suspect Joseph William Kipp, 52, is a transient who lives in his car and frequents Santa Ana. The suspect has implicated himself in the two bank robberies:

He was booked at Industry Sheriff’s Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and is being held without bail under a parole hold. The Sheriff’s Department will seek a criminal filing of bank robbery through the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

FBI Press Advisory - "No Bands Bandit"
The “No Bands Bandit,” an unidentified male bank robber linked to at least two bank robberies in the communities of Hacienda Heights and Santa Ana, is being sought by law enforcement, including the FBI, Santa Ana PD and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. During the bank robbery in Santa Ana, a witness stated that the bandit displayed a weapon under his clothing.
The Bandit, who demands cash with “no bands” when he approaches the victim teller, is described as follows:
White or Hispanic Male
5’8”-5’9”
170 – 180 lbs.
45 – 55 years old
