TWO MILLION OC RESIDENTS WILL RECEIVE ALERTOC TEST CALL
TUSTIN, Calif. – On Thursday evening, October 20 at 5:00 p.m., the City of Tustin along with other OC cities will send a regional test call via the AlertOC system. All total, more than two million Orange County residents will receive the call. This is the second annual regional test of the system and will include 29 participating cities and unincorporated areas. Residents are encouraged to self-register their cell phone and alternate numbers to be part of this test and for any future emergency notifications.
The key feature of AlertOC is the ability of residents to register more than one contact method at a specific address. Registration of cell phones and alternate numbers increase the potential of reaching the greatest number of community members as rapidly as possible with important instructions and information in an emergency. AlertOC enables landlines, cell phones, and email addresses to be incorporated into a single notification system.
“AlertOC gives the police department and other first responders the ability to communicate time-sensitive and life-saving information during times of emergency. I hope our citizens will take advantage of
the system and sign up at www.Alertoc.com so that they may receive emergency alerts at their phone number of choice,” said Mayor Jerry Amante. “Tustin is continually planning and updating technologies for emergencies like fires, earthquakes, and other disasters that could happen at any time in our community. During an emergency, information changes often and we want to have the ability to give fast, updated, and accurate information to all of our citizens.”
The regional test is held in conjunction with the Great California Shakeout earthquake drill. The AlertOC drill on October 20 will replicate a large scale, multi-jurisdictional emergency requiring thousands of numbers to be called simultaneously across Orange County’s entire region. The phone message will urge all residents to prepare for real life emergencies by registering their cell numbers, text numbers and email addresses at www.AlertOC.com for the best chance to receive vital, timely information when away from home.
If a resident with a listed landline does not receive the test call, he or she should visit www.AlertOC.com to enter their contact information in the secure database.
AlertOC is a mass notification system designed to keep Orange County residents and businesses informed of emergencies and certain community events. By registering with AlertOC, time-sensitive voice messages from the County or City in which you live or work may be sent to your home, cell or business phone. Text messages may also be sent to cell phones, e-mail accounts and hearing impaired receiving devices.
