A Hazardous Weather Outlook Has been reported for the North Castle Area.

The North Castle Office of Emergency Management has been monitoring regional HD weather radar, and expects there to be a high potential for Heavy Rain and Isolated Damaging Winds due to a strong Nor Easter weather pattern beginning Tuesday Evening October 18,2011 and continuing through Thursday October 20, 2011.

Based on the radar track and warnings a Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for potential heavy rain, isolated thunderstorms, and isolated damaging winds for the Westchester County Area, including North Castle. This condition will remain in effect until Thursday evening October 20 ,2011.

While this warning has not been issued by the National Weather Service it is issued in order for residents to prepare for conditions of this type well in advance of the storm or storm warnings issued by the NWS.

As these individual storm warnings are issued by the NWS you will be informed via this nixle warning system.

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Wednesday

FOR WEDNESDAY...PREPARE FOR HEAVY RAIN...STRONG WINDS AND MINOR TIDAL FLOODING AROUND HIGH TIDES.

A WAVE OF LOW PRESSURE IS FORECAST TO ORGANIZE OVER THE SOUTHEAST U.S. TONIGHT AND MOVE NORTH ALONG THE ATLANTIC COAST ON WEDNESDAY.

A WIDESPREAD 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAINFALL IS LIKELY...WITH A HEAVIER BAND OF 2 TO 3 INCHES POSSIBLE. THE HEAVIEST RAIN WILL FALL NORTH OF A COASTAL FRONT THAT WILL DEVELOP NORTHEAST FROM THE LOW DURING THE DAY WEDNESDAY. SIGNIFICANT URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING IS POSSIBLE WHERE THE HEAVY RAIN BAND SETS UP.

EAST WINDS ARE FORECAST TO INCREASE TO 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 30 TO 40 MPH RESULTING IN TIDAL DEPARTURES FROM 1.5 TO 2.5 FEET ABOVE NORMAL. THIS MAY CAUSE SOME MINOR TIDAL FLOODING DURING THE TIMES OF HIGH TIDE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THIS SURGE COULD BE EXACERBATED IN WESTERN LONG ISLAND SOUND BY WAVE ACTION.

FOR THURSDAY...STRONG SOUTHWEST WINDS ARE POSSIBLE AS THIS STRONG LOW MOVES ACROSS SOUTHEAST CANADA.


National Weather Service Forecast for White Plains &North Castle Area:

This Afternoon: Partly sunny, with a high near 68. West wind around 6 mph.

Tonight: Rain likely, mainly after 5am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 53. Light east wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 63. Breezy, with a east wind 7 to 10 mph increasing to between 20 and 23 mph. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Wednesday Night: Showers, mainly before 11pm. Low around 54. East wind 7 to 14 mph becoming south. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Southwest wind between 11 and 18 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 47.


ADDITIONAL LOCAL INFORMATION from NORTH CASTLE OEM

All North Castle residents should prepare for the possibility of power outages and roadway flooding & closures during this time period extending into the overnight and until the posted expiration date and time. This weather system has high trailing winds that will remain after the rain has ended. Residents should be aware of the possibility of falling trees, and the damage that is associated with them, including downed powelines and closed roadways.

Residents experienceing an interuption in electrical service should contact Con Edison Directly at 1-800 75CONED to report their outage. All effected residents should call Con Edison even if the outage was reported by their neighbor. If your home is protected by a generator unit, it is still very important for you to report your outage. Response to your area depends on the number of homes without electrical power, so please report your outage.

The North Castle Office of Emergency Management is monitoring this HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK Event and may activate the EOC if required to deal with situations arising from it. Additional information regarding incidents arising from this event will be sent when available through nixle.
