(Venice, Florida, Oct 17, 2011)--- According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, on average, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty somewhere in the
United States every 53 hours. In 2010, the figures show that 152 officers lost their lives.

Preliminary figures for 2011 show, for the first half of the year, 88 officers have died, which is an increase of 21% for the same period in 2010.

In 2008, Florida was the first state to establish a Blue Alert system in an effort to address this serious problem. The Blue Alert System is modeled on the Amber and Silver Alert systems that are currently in place in the United States. The Amber Alert is used sending alerts about missing children, and the Silver Alert for missing senior citizens. In the case of the Blue Alert, a notification is sent out to law enforcement in other jurisdictions that a felon is on the run after
seriously injuring or killing another officer. It also sends out alerts to the general public via various media outlets.

Other states with a Blue Alert system include Florida, Virginia, Mississippi, Georgia, California, Colorado, Maryland, Tennessee, Alabama, Delaware, Texas, Oklahoma and Utah. With the
support of many United States Senators and Congressmen, it is expected to be a nationwide effort in the very near future.

Using media broadcasts and Department of Transportation messaging signs, each Blue Alert would cover any given state with information identifying a detailed description of the offender, the offender’s vehicle, and license plate information which will inevitably hinder the violators ability to flee the state and facilitate a speedy capture, helping eliminate the threat they would pose on other communities and law enforcement personnel. It is the purpose of bluealert.us to add the nationwide web, text, and email component to the alerting system.

The Blue Alert is designed to provide the means to speed the apprehension of violent criminals who kill or seriously injure local, state, or federal law enforcement officers.
