With impending winter weather upon us, the Boxborough Police Department has some winter driving tips.
The Boxborough Police Department is asking for the cooperation of all motorists as we approach the winter driving season.
Here are some tips to help you prepare your vehicle for the upcoming winter months:
Make sure your tires have sufficient tread depth and are properly inflated – snow or all-season tires are recommended
Check engine coolant for proper level and sufficient anti-freeze protection
Windshield wipers and blades should be in good condition and the washer fluid full
Ensure that ALL windows are cleared of snow and ice
Stock your vehicle with some basic winter driving necessities, such as; tire chains, jumper cables, tow strap, small shovel, de-icer and sand. Keep a fully-charged cell phone, warm clothes, boots, blankets, food & water, a flashlight and flares in your vehicle
Drivers are reminded that speed limits are set for ideal weather and roadway conditions.
“During periods of adverse weather, drivers need to slow down, increase their following distances and be sure to give themselves extra time to arrive at their destination safely,” said Sergeant Warren O’Brien, public information officer. “All drivers are responsible to maintain control of their vehicles regardless of the weather or roadway conditions,” he said.
