One Fire Sprinker Saves Apartment

FIRE SPRINKLER SAVES OCCUPANTS FROM APARTMENT FIRE

FOLSOM, CA- A single fire sprinkler head is credited with extinguishing a fire on an apartment patio this afternoon and preventing a major fire damage to an apartment complex. Firefighters from the City of Folsom Fire Department were dispatched to a fire alarm activation at the Overlook Apartments in the 1200 block of Creekside Drive. A total of one engine company, one truck company, and one chief officer were responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, the firefighters quickly determined that a fire in combustible materials stored on the patio had been quickly extinguished by the activation of one fire sprinkler. According to Division Chief Calvin Howard, the fire had completely consumed the materials stored on the patio and started to attack the building when the fire sprinkler activated. “The fire sprinkler system performed exactly the way it was designed”, said Chief Howard, “it extinguished the fire while it was still small and prevented damage to the rest of the building”. Folsom Fire Department personnel completed the extinguishment and secured the flowing water from the fire sprinkler system, and assisted in cleaning up the damage. The occupants were home, however no injuries or deaths occurred as a result of the fire. The fire was determined to be caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

Tomorrow is the last day of Fire Prevention Month, however the Folsom Fire Department reminds residents that it is important to practice fire safety the entire year. One tip to remember is that if you smoke, make sure cigarette butts and ashes are out before discarding them , and dousing in water or sand is the best way to do that.
