Haloween Safety Tips.

The Des Peres Department of Public Safety would like to remind all of you "Trick or Treaters" to be safe this year. Below you will find some safety reminders that you should discuss with your children before releasing them for the evening.

Any costume accessories (swords, knives, and similar) should be short, soft, and flexible.

Make sure you avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.

Its going to br dark as it is every year so fastening reflective tape to costumes and bags will help drivers see you.

Limit the amount of treats you eat. Always examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them.

Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. Always WALK and don't run from house to house.

Any costume make-up should be tested in a small area first. And always remove it before bedtime to prevent possible skin and eye irritation.

**VERY IMPORTANT**Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible.

Only walk on sidewalks whenever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe.

Wear well-fitting masks, costumes, and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips, and falls.

Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers. The best practice is to eat only factory-wrapped treats.

Never enter the home of someone you don't know. Enter homes only if you're with a trusted adult.

Never walk near lit candles or luminaries. Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes.
